Behaviour Supports
Mapleton School endeavors to provide a safe and positive learning environment for everyone within the school and has developed a Code of Conduct to define expectations of behaviour for students, staff, and parent/guardians. We expect the students to demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and acceptance of responsibilities. The following outline a variety of school-wide supports and programs in place to help students learn positive behaviours:
Code of Conduct: Our Code includes clear expectations and a range of natural consequences.
School Rules: Students learn our 3 school rules through direct teaching, modeling and guided practice.
Virtues Education: All students receive classroom teaching about the virtue of the month. School announcements, assemblies, newsletters and bulletin boards reinforce these virtues.
Conflict Mediators: are grade 4-6 students who are trained in conflict resolution techniques and who patrol the Primary playground to assist students in peacefully solving their problems.
Friendship Groups: are for students who are finding developing social relationships difficult.
Group Counselling: Specialists from our Student Services Centre meet with students to learn about a variety of topics including problem solving skills, anger management, friendship skills, grief counselling, family separation, and other topics as the needs arise.
Support Team: made up of Clinicians, Principal, Resource Teacher and other Teachers, develop behaviour plans for students demonstrating and experiencing difficulties in learning appropriate behaviours.
