What To Bring
Paddling Wear/ On The Water
warm hat/ sun hat/ helmet hockey etc. or white water type
polypropylene shirt wicks moisture away from your skin
light weight fleece warm, non-restrictive, dries fast
warm fleece for lunch and cold days
rain jacket/ paddling jacket for wind, rain, and warmth
bathing suit optional
polypropylene bottoms wicks moisture away from your skin
fleece pant warm, non-restrictive, and dries fast
wind pant for wind, and warmth
rain pant for wind, rain, and warmth
polypropylene socks/ wool socks wicks moisture away from your skin,
feet are always getting wet
shoes/ wet suit boots comfortable to knee in the canoe,
must be able to swim with them on
wet suit/ dry suit for cold days and rain,
provides floatation
wet suit gloves for cold and raining days
glasses/ sunglasses extra pair, use a retaining strap
sunscreen/ sun block water is very reflexive,
knee pads you will be kneeing, canoe outfitted?
volleyball type, plumber type, etc.
extra change of clothes for the end of the day, to drive in,
to change into if wet
canoe ABS, cross link, Royalex, R-light,
polyethylene, Kevlar, aluminum,
rocker, floatation
bailer required by law
painters two, floating rope, approx. 25 feet
throw bags one or two if you have
rescue gear/ carabiners/ pulleys/ slings/ prusiks/ webbing etc. if available
paddle white water style, T-grip if you have
spare paddle always a good idea
P.F.D. does it fit you? Rescue knife(optional)?
whistle that works if wet, Fox 40, etc.
water bottle to replace body fluids
day trip bag waterproof, for the river run
first aid kit if available
repair kit if available
emergency kit if available
Food
Lunches may be away from the car and/ or on the water.
Extra snacks are good if you get tried, cold, and for after a swim.
Thermoses are great on cool raining days or when the water temperature is cool.
