Homework
Home reading should occur every night for approximately 20 minutes. There is a sign up sheet in the student’s planner that should be filled in by the student and signed by the parent. Boston Pizza reward system will be in place. Your child will receive a certificate for a free personal pizza once the home reading sheet in filled. Math fact sheets will be sent home to practice on Monday and Wednesdays. Please return the completed sheet the following school day. Your child should study for the spelling test held each Friday during the week. Only the words misspelled in the pre-test need to be studied. There may be the occasional Social Studies or Science project or test that requires some time at home. Detailed information about what is expected will be included with a project
outline. The only other homework will be unfinished work that was assigned during classtime. Homework that is assigned and not finished at home will be done during Perception Check or recess the next day.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
This year there will be two components to the gradefour homework program. Students areexpected to read at least 20 times per month for 20 minutes per session. Included in the homework bag is the Boston Pizzareading sheet. Once your child has readfor 20 minutes they should fill out the reading sheet and have you signit. Once the sheet is full they need tobring it back to school. Your child canchoose the book they read for home reading from the school library or their ownbooks. I will be assisting them in choosing books that they are interested inand are at their reading level. I willkeep the reading sheets and there will be reading awards at the end of theyear. Each completed reading sheet givesthe child a gift certificate for a free individual size Boston pizza.
There will also be a math facts sheet included inthe homework bag each week. There aretwo sides to the math sheet. Your childcan do both sides in one night or one per night. The goal of the math sheets is to give extramath facts practice and to increase accuracy and speed. The facts coming home for the first half ofthe year will be addition and subtraction facts to 20. These facts are expected to be done quicklyand accurately by the end of grade three. Students should be able to do each side with no errors within two tothree minutes. We will work on obtainingthis goal until the end of January. Please send the math sheets back by Fridayof each week.
If you have any questions about either of thesehomework programs you may write me a note in your child’s planner (when theyarrive) or call me at the school at 482-4409. Thank you for your assistance in this homework. Both daily reading and practicing math factswill assist in your child’s progress.
Sincerely,
C. Rohne
