SHAD is a unique Canadian summer enrichment program and network where high achieving students are given the opportunity to immerse themselves and participate in learning, activities and challenges that revolve around science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
Students completing grades ten, eleven and twelve can apply, with only 900 selected from across Canada. The program provides the opportunity to explore and live at one of 16 university residences while still in high school during the month of July.
SHAD came to Lord Selkirk Regional School last fall to present the program for the first time, seeking out participation from Manitoban students. Four students were accepted from the Comp. The Lord Selkirk School Division Board of Trustees supported each student with some financial assistance.
Lise Belanger will be attending Carlton University in Ottawa. Emma Lowen will be at Memorial University in St. John's. Grafton Hopkins will be attending Ryerson University in Toronto. Kya Jackson will be attending Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
With the opportunity to be challenge, innovate, collaborate, engage and explore, this will be an enrichment experience of a lifetime for these students.
