The sport of basketball in our community has been profoundly shaped by the passion and dedication of Coach Randy Alleyne, Sr. With an impressive 35 years of coaching at Lockport School and 38 years within the Lord Selkirk School Division (LSSD), Coach Alleyne's influence on countless young athletes is immeasurable. His legacy is defined not only by victories and championships but also by his unwavering commitment to the game and to the players who have had the privilege of learning from him.

Coach Alleyne’s journey in basketball began in the late 1980s when his sons attended Lockport School. His love for coaching blossomed during this time and has remained a constant throughout his career. His coaching influence extends beyond Lockport, as he also made his mark within the broader community. His involvement with the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association further cemented his role as a coach dedicated to developing players both on and off the court.

In the early years of his coaching career, Coach Alleyne made an immediate impact on the local basketball scene. A standout moment was winning the JV boys’ KPAC title at Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School (LSRCSS). His ability to inspire and elevate his players became clear, and he continued this work at East Selkirk Middle School, where his teams captured the LSSD banner for the Grade 8 boys. Through it all, Coach Alleyne demonstrated a commitment to excellence, ensuring that every player under his leadership not only honed their basketball skills but also embraced discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Over the course of his career, Coach Alleyne has coached an estimated 350 athletes within LSSD, contributing to over 1,000 games. While these numbers are impressive, they only scratch the surface of his impact. His volunteer efforts at the Lancerdome and his ongoing commitment to shaping young athletes' futures demonstrate his deep dedication to the community. The influence he’s had is evident in the many players who have passed through the Lancerdome, all eager to learn from his example. Coach Alleyne’s passion for basketball extends far beyond the scoreboard. It’s about developing well-rounded individuals who embrace the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication in all aspects of their lives.
