Local Student Recognition

On May 20th, the Lord Selkirk School Division Board of Trustees proudly presented awards to four outstanding individuals whose dedication, achievements, and leadership inspire us all.

Friends, family, and community members gathered in support to honour these inspiring recipients who are making a difference locally, nationally, and globally.

🥇 Dylan Collins
Dylan made Manitoba history by becoming the first Manitoban on Special Olympics Team Canada to win a medal at the Special Olympics World Games — and he brought home GOLD! Competing in the Alpine Ski M03 division, Dylan placed first in the Intermediate Giant Slalom.

Dylan has been involved with Special Olympics for over 12 years, starting in bowling and eventually finding his passion on the ski slopes. Inspired by seeing fellow athletes train on the hill, Dylan learned to ski and embraced the challenge. His courage to try something new has led him to unforgettable experiences, lifelong memories, and national recognition. He is incredibly proud to represent Canada on the world stage.

🌍 Kyra De La Ronde
A proud Métis woman from Selkirk and a strong voice for Indigenous youth, Kyra has demonstrated extraordinary leadership from a young age. Since 2018, she has served as the Youth Representative for the Interlake Region with the Infinity Women Secretariat, and in 2021, was appointed Chairperson of the Manitoba Métis Federation’s Provincial Youth Advisory Committee.

Kyra is a graduate of the Indigenous School of Education at Red River College Polytechnic, where she earned a diploma in Community Development. In early 2024, Kyra was one of four youth chosen to join the Red River Métis delegation to Rome, where she had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Pope Francis. Her commitment to advocacy, education, and cultural representation continues to make a difference across Manitoba and beyond.

🥌 Kerri Einarson
From her roots in Clandeboye to competing internationally, Kerri Einarson is a name synonymous with curling excellence. An alumni of William S. Patterson, Lockport School, and LSRCSS, Kerri’s athletic journey began early. While she enjoyed all sports, curling captured her heart.

In 2016, Kerri won the Manitoba Provincials and made her first trip to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Just four years later, she defeated Rachel Homan and claimed her first Scotties title in 2020. What followed was history in the making — four consecutive Scotties championships, a feat never before achieved in Canadian curling. Kerri and her team proudly represented Canada at World Championships in Calgary, Prince George, and Sweden. A proud ambassador of the sport, Kerri continues to inspire youth by sharing her love for curling.

🎓 Kadence Sharples
Kadence Sharples was awarded the MSBA Student Citizenship Award for Region 3 — a testament to her outstanding leadership, compassion, and civic engagement. This year alone, Kadence participated in the Manitoba High School Ethics Bowl, the Youth Nuclear Peace Summit, and even represented at Parliament in Ottawa as part of the Summit.

An active member of the Performing Arts Department, Kadence shares her love of music by playing flute at hospitals, seniors' homes, and community events like the Selkirk Arts Festival. She is known for her kindness, dedication, and initiative — always stepping up to improve both her school and local community.
