📅 April 9th - National Day of Remembrance: Battle of Vimy Ridge
Today, we pause to remember the bravery and sacrifice of the Canadian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge, a pivotal moment in Canadian history. The battle, which took place from April 9th to 12th, 1917, marked Canada's first major military victory during World War I. It is often seen as a defining moment in our nation's development, uniting Canadians from coast to coast.
The Vimy Memorial, located in France, commemorates the more than 61,000 Canadians who lost their lives in the First World War, symbolizing courage, sacrifice, and the strong sense of national identity forged on the battlefield.
In honour of this historic day, LSSD will be flying all flags at half-mast from sunrise to sunset today, April 9th.
Let us reflect on the legacy of those who served and the importance of remembrance. 🌺
