Understanding Education Tax: What You Need to Know

Understanding Education Tax: What You Need to Know
Posted on 10/01/2025

We’ve received many questions lately about education taxes, changes to the rebate program, and how property assessments affect tax bills—especially in light of the 2025 reassessment and rebate program updates.

To help provide clarity, we’ve created a comprehensive FAQ sheet that answers the most common questions we’re hearing, including:

  • Why your tax bill may have increased
  • What’s changed with the Manitoba Education Property Tax Rebate
  • Who is eligible for the rebate in 2025
  • How the education mill rate is set by the Lord Selkirk School Division
  • Why we don’t have access to individual property assessments or tax bills

👉 Read the FAQs here.

Please note: The Lord Selkirk School Division sets the mill rate each year, but billing is handled by your RM, assessments are issued by your local Tax Assessment Office, and the Rebate credits are provided by the Province of Manitoba .

We hope this information helps clarify some of the confusion and provides a clearer picture of how education taxes are determined.
