The Auto Body Repair/Refinish program offers interested students the opportunity to explore all aspects of the collision repair industry. While exploring, students will develop the skills and abilities required to work as an auto body repair and refinish technician. The program major involves a series of 11 progressive courses studied over a three year period. All the courses in the program are designed with a “practical/hands on” format. Students complete relevant projects and the required theory, while working in a lab that operates as a production body shop.
Students are given the opportunity to bring in their own vehicles for body work and paint jobs as well as complete a series of ‘skill developing’ projects. Some of these projects include simulated collision and paint repairs, as well as metal working and fabrication. Students enrolling in this program will be required to supply their own steel toed work boots, safety glasses and cover-alls. These safety items are mandatory as our program is regulated by Workplace Health and Safety. Completion of this program allows students to go forward and become journey person certified by the Department of Labour if they choose to do so. Former students have gone on to work in this industry as technicians, insurance estimators, paint and body supply sales representatives and body shop owners.
