Trustees ensure schools provide students with opportunities for quality education. They set education policies that reflect the aspirations of the community and that are consistent with overall provincial guidelines.
ASHLEY MONKMAN

Ashley was born in Selkirk, MB and grew up in Pine Dock, MB where she attended Nursery to Gr.9 then moved to Selkirk to attend High School where she graduated in 2000. She currently lives in Selkirk with her Fiancé and daughter.
She was elected to the LSSD School Board in 2018 as representative of Ward 5 - City of Selkirk and was re-elected for her second term October 2022. She has served on the Negotiations, Equivalents, Finance, Policy & Evaluation Committees and currently Chairs the Community Connections Committee.
Ashley is the Executive Director for the Selkirk Community Renewal Corporation (Non-Profit) where she has worked since 2013 and she has worked with Non-Profits a majority of her adult life. She has served on various Committees within the City of Selkirk such as the Crime Prevention Advisory Board, Promoting Aboriginal Student Success (P.A.S.S)- Adult Committee and Interlake Affordable Housing Coalition to name a few.
In 2016 she became the youngest person to be named Citizen of the Year through the Selkirk & District Community Foundation for the volunteer work that she has done throughout the City of Selkirk.
Ashley is extremely grateful to serve as School Board Trustee for the Lord Selkirk School Division as a representative for the City of Selkirk. She has enjoyed the learning experience in her first term and looks forward to the knowledge and experience she will continue to gain over the next four years as well as being a voice for the citizens of Selkirk.
BEV BARKER

Bev Barker has been a resident of the South St. Andrews area since 1989.
She has an Education degree from the University of Winnipeg and has taught for 32 years. In 2011, Bev retired but continues to substitute part-time in the River East Transcona School Division.
Since Bev wanted to stay involved in the community and education, she ran for school trustee in the South St. Andrews area in 2014 and is now serving her third term.
This year, Bev is a member of the Policy & Evaluation Committee and the Negotiations Committee. She continues to learn the politics, processes, and policies with her colleagues.
Bev feels attending school activities and functions are a way to see the children, staff, and families of the community. She has attended several events from elementary to high school throughout the years.
Bev believes ALL COMMUNITY VOICES (including students), should be heard to create an effective learning environment. Advocating for equity is important!
There are many challenges and issues in education. One of Bev’s concerns is the funding of education. There needs to be a new process from the government for collecting taxes and distributing them fairly across the province. Having a strong and quality education system will help ALL students flourish. This is an investment in which all citizens benefit.
Bev will continue to work hard as a trustee. It has been an honour and privilege to serve in LSSD.
HARVEY LEVIN

Harvey is serving his second term as trustee representing Ward 4- RM of St. Clements (East Selkirk).
He is currently Finance Committee Chair and serves on Policy & Evaluation Committee and is an alternate on the Workplace Safety and Health committee.
Harvey graduated from The Comp in 1974 and work at Manitoba Rolling Mills, now Gerdau from which he retired in 2010. At the Mill he received extensive Steelworker education in Safety and Health, was a worker representative in Workers Compensation Board cases, was involved in environmental issues and was a shop steward. He also served on the East Selkirk Water and Sewer committee. He has a healthy respect for working people and has attained a diverse real-world education.
Harvey was satisfied with the public education his daughter received, she graduated from LSSD and is doing very well. He currently has 2 grandchildren in LSSD. Harvey is happy to attend school functions.
He ran for the trustee position with a keen interest on promoting trades education, from training in equipment operators to highly skilled medical positions. Harvey believes every child deserves to get the best education that they can achieve, and he supports public education.
Harvey believes in the importance of English, Math, Sciences and other languages and interests that are important in the education process.
HEATHER HOGG

Heather is honoured to be re-elected as a school trustee for a third term serving Ward 2 (RM of St. Andrews- North) in this important role and thanks them for their continued support.
She believes in the public school system as being foundational in ensuring opportunity and equity as well as promoting and developing our learners in a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
She is actively involved in volunteering in her community and schools in the division.Heather has two children who are recent graduates of the Lord Selkirk School Division.
Heather has a genuine commitment to the following divisional areas; Indigenous Education, French Immersion, Divisional & School Planning – Numeracy, Literacy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Mental Health Well-Being and Well Becoming.
She has served on the following committees during her terms: Finance, Workplace Health & Safety, Community Connections, Negotiations, Policy & Evaluation.
JACK BOGASKI

Jack will be serving his third term as a trustee representing Ward 5 - City of Selkirk. He also will be serving his fifth consecutive year as the Board’s Vice Chair which means he fills in for the Chair when they are not available, and he also chairs Committee of the Whole meetings. He has served on most of the Board’s committees in the past years.
A long-time member of the Selkirk community he has one daughter who received all her education in the division and now teaches in Winnipeg but lives in Selkirk. He has two grandchildren that are currently in the division.
Jack is passionate about quality, equitable public education for all students. He sees public education as a public good as he believes education benefits not only the local community but also society as a whole.He strongly believes that education requires adequate government spending which should be viewed as an investment for the future and not as a cost. Jack values community input in divisional decision making.
As a trustee, Jack brings to the table experience as an educator and an administrator in Lord Selkirk School Division. For eleven years after retirement Jack served as a Faculty Supervisor for the Universities of Winnipeg and Brandon where he evaluated many student teachers and got firsthand knowledge of current educational practices by being in their classrooms.
JUDY MARYNIUK

Judy is a School Trustee for Ward 5 – City of Selkirk. She ran for this position in 2018 because she has a passion for education!
Judy has a Bachelor of Education Degree, Post -Baccalaureate, Special Education Certificate and School Administrator Level One Certificate. She also was involved with the Lord Selkirk Teachers’ Association for several years and held positions of Co-Chair for various committees as well as being President.
After being a classroom teacher and Resource Teacher in the Lord Selkirk School Division for almost 30 years, this has given her a good insight into what the needs are for students in our division. Being re-elected, allows her to continue to be a local voice for educational issues.
Judy believes public education is important and is ever evolving and keeping up to date with current issues and programming is important. She finds value in attending many conferences and events and is an active participant in discussions. Since being elected she has served on several committees and has been Chair of Community Connections, Policy and Evaluation, Negotiations and Finance. She has also been on the Equivalents committee. She attends numerous school functions throughout the year and she is always open to having a good discussion pertaining to education.
KAREN JOHNSTON

Karen is a parent to three students in LSSD. She has lived in the division for most of her life, having attended three LSSD schools from K – 12, graduating from “The Comp” in 2000.
Currently, she serves as an active, engaged volunteer Board Member of the Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education (MPUE) and The Osvita Foundation. She has a strong belief in service to the community which was instilled in her at an early age. She has volunteered in a variety of capacities throughout her life.
Karen is also the Project Lead for the #MPUEBackpack4Hope Initiative.She has collected and provided donated items for new Ukrainian students into backpacks to include these students in Manitoba, so they feel welcome and comforted.
She has also served as an English-Ukrainian Bilingual Parent Committee Member at Happy Thought School & East Selkirk Middle School for several years, actively engaging in and organizing activities for students. Karen is currently on the Community Connections, Finance and Equivalents Committees.As a parent member of the School Board, she is an enthusiastic, caring advocate for Ukrainian Bilingualism and Inclusive Education Plans for all students.
She has the passion and heart to represent Ward 3 (Walter Whyte School and surrounding areas) all students and staff of the Lord Selkirk School Division.You will find her at community events, school activities and getting right into lending a helping hand wherever and whenever it is needed!
LENA KUBLICK

Lena has represented Ward 4 since 2010. She and her husband Dave have lived in St Clements for 28 years and have 3 children who are graduates of LSSD.
Her passion for public education and supporting students across the continuum started with her involvement with the Happy Thought School and East Selkirk Middle School Parent Advisory Councils.Through her career as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, and in her volunteer roles with her church’s Sunday School program, at Simonhouse Camp in northern Manitoba and most recently as Head Coach of the Interlake Athletics Special Olympics Team, Lena shows her passion for supporting children and families.
Lena believes learning happens at all ages and all levels. Selkirk & District Community Foundation and the Rotary Club provided Lena with valuable volunteer opportunities.
As a trustee, Lena has participated on all LSSD board committees, and has served as Chair for the last 6 years.
Lena has also served as Region 3 Director for the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA) for 5 years, served on the Aboriginal Education Blueprint Committee, chaired the MSBA Convention Planning Committee for the last 3 years, and has co-presented at both our provincial and national conventions.
She, along with Vice Chair Bogaski have had the opportunity to present to the K-12 Education Review Commission, and the introduction of Bill 64 in 2020 galvanized her commitment to the students, staff and families of LSSD. She believes that the education system needs to be collaborative and responsive, and that as a trustee, she is accountable to our communities and believes that local voices should be reflected in decisions made for our students.
ROBERT JESSON

Bob was raised in a small town in Saskatchewan. He went to Brandon University enrolling in teacher education and is a graduate of Brandon University, the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba where he obtained a Master’s equivalent in Education, majoring in administrative studies.
Bob taught grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 before becoming a principal. He was an administrator at Wm S Patterson, Ruth Hooker, Happy Thought, Ecole Selkirk Junior High and St Andrews Schools.
He retired in June 2006 and ran for the position of school trustee in October 2006 for Ward 1 (RM of St. Andrews- South). He has been a trustee in the Lord Selkirk School Division for four terms.
Bob ran for the position of school trustee, as a way, to give back to the community for providing him with his dream career. He is grateful beyond words to the Lord Selkirk School Division for what it has provided him and his family.
